A Pharmacognosy Lab is a specialized laboratory where research and experiments related to the study of medicinal plants, natural products, and bioactive compounds are conducted. Pharmacognosy is the branch of pharmacy that deals with the study of drugs derived from natural sources, particularly plant materials, although it also includes materials from animals, marine organisms, and microbes.

Phytochemistry (Phyton- Plant) is the chemistry dealing with plants or plant products or natural products (chemistry of natural product).

These chemical constituents may be therapeutically active or inactive. The ones which are active are called active constituents or active principles (Alkaloids, Glycosides, Tannins, Volatile oil etc).

Major equipments available in the department include Projector Microscope, Compound Microscopes, Soxhlet Apparatus, Hot Air Oven, Muffle Furnace, Hot Plate Magnetic Stirrer etc. The laboratory is well dressed with charts, models and self developed photographs of medicinal plants. Department has also developed unique medicinal garden with about 80 different plants with few rare species.
